Wawataytv Kids was an educational show from the early 2000s, around 2002-2006, that aired in Canada for the Oji-Cree communities. Episodes combined live segments and puppetry to teach life lessons as well as cultural lessons, indigenous stories, and the Ojibwe language. Apart from a Wiki and IMDb page, online information about the show is scare, and it is unclear how many episodes were produced and aired. As of 7 August 2024, only episodes 1-3 of season 2 are available via the official Wawataytv YouTube channel.

Recurring Segments

The Opener

Following the opening theme, Sampson greets the audience, goes to the blackboard where the episode topic is written, and introduces the topic to the audience and the three kid puppets: Billy, Bonnie, and Jacob.

Julian's Jokes

A 30-second segment in which a kid named Julian tells a joke in a setting similar to a comedy club. Possibly played before commercial breaks[citation needed].

Old Samuel and the Adventures of Folklorama

Old Samuel interviews people at Folklorama, a two-week cultural festival held every August in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Native Legends

A man retells stories passed down from his grandmother and other native legends. Clips switch between footage of him speaking and eagles flying in the sky, accompanied by flute music playing in the background.

Kids Safety Tips

Quick, live-action segments about safety such as the importance of seatbelts or proper precautions when walking down the street.

Language Lessons

Christina teaches Furry Freddy and the audience words in the Ojibwe language.

Megesi

Kids summon Megesi, the eagle puppet "club leader", by chanting. Megesi falls from the sky and, speaking through a window, answers questions posed by the kids.

Other segments include Old Samuel interviewing a coordinator at the Korean Pavilion, the continuation of a Native legend from the previous episode, tips for safely crossing the street, and a lesson on money-related vocabulary. Season 2, Episode 3 Instead of playing with Billy and Jacob, Bonnie chooses to hang out with the "cool kids", Chris and Paul. The audience later learns that Bonnie was trying to impress Chris and Paul by doing things like stealing candy from a store. Bonnie and the audience are educated about peer pressure and encouraged to just say "no" when they know something is wrong. Other segments include Old Samuel interviewing Kyle at the Indian Pavilion, the completion of the Native legend featured in the previous two episodes, and Ojibwe words for animals. Found
