The footage originated from a VHS tape owned by the film's special effects artist Carl Fullerton, who sought to preserve his work in light of the heavy MPAA censorship. Fullerton asked the editors to compile the cut footage into a VHS transfer for the young artist's portfolio. The 1981 cult classic horror movie Friday the 13th Part 2 was submitted a total of 8 times to the MPAA, being given each time a X rating. 48 seconds of violent shots were subsequently trimmed for the theatrical release. In addition, at least two scenes were shot but never included in the final cut of the film.
MPAA Cuts
- Alice's death was more graphic compared to the bloodless version seen in the final cut.
- Crazy Ralph's death initially had the wire choking him to death and piercing his skin.
