The Rizal Park hostage-taking incident, also known as Manila Hostage Crisis, is an incident that took place when a former Philippine National Police officer named Rolando Mendoza hijacked a tourist bus in Rizal Park on August 23rd, 2010.
Background
Negotiations surrounding the hostages took place, which were broadcast both on television worldwide and on the Internet. Reporters Erwin Tulfo & Michael Rogas remained in contact with Mendoza which were criticized due to preventing policemen from getting in touch with him[1] and television channels all over the world were airing live coverage of the crisis, along with Philippine TV networks ABS-CBN, GMA-7, TV5, and government-run NBN (now PTV). Mendoza then became agitated as he witnessed the live coverage of his brother's arrest, Gregorio Mendoza. This resulted in two hostages being killed as he claimed on live radio.[2]

The networks were criticized due to the live airing contributing to the death of hostages on the bus.[3] ABS-CBN, TV5, and Radyo Mo Nationwide were penalized by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) for ethics violations and GMA-7 reviewed its policies and its ethics and was finalized on September 9, 2010.[4]
GMA's coverage ran from 6:30-9:30 pm. Clips of the coverage were uploaded by bobosierap.[5] A BlogSpot dedicated to uploading GMA's news and TV shows uploaded the full coverage in the channel jakloreq, which also uploaded other GMA's August 23rd, 2010 shows that time. This channel went unnoticed until Philippine Television Archives co-owner theFoggy found the channel in 2020 and archived it. However, the laptop where he archived it broke in September 2020.
