Oilspot and Lipstick is a 1987 animated short film by Disney, it is noteworthy due to it being the studio's first fully CG short.

Plot

The film features two dogs made out of scrap as its protagonists, with them being Oilspot and Lipstick, living in a junkyard. When suddenly, Oilspot wakes up an evil robot after biting his tail, after that, the robot takes Lipstick away. Oilspot then notices a wrench and throws it at one of the robot's eyes, killing it. The short ends with the dogs staying in a destroyed car, with Oilspot putting a Do Not Disturb card.

Availability

The short was first shown off on the first day of SIGGRAPH 1987, a press conference about computer graphics. This would end up being its only public showcase, and since then, despite its significance to Disney's history, it has never recieved any type of official home media release and is also unavailable on Disney+.

According to the Italian blog The Disney Compendium, a badly damaged copy of the short was available (possibly in 2014, due to some image metadata), however, outside of some stills, this copy has either not been made public or was simply removed with no re-uploads known to exist,[1] a clip had also resurfaced at some point on Facebook, however it was deleted and wasn't properly archived.[2]

On November 22nd, 2020, Youtube channel Creative Talent Network held a reunion with some of the crew behind the short, were they disscussed its production and additionally showcased it in its entirety.
