BattleBots was an American competition show that ran from 2000 to 2002. The show had five competitions that aired on Comedy Central, and was colloquially referred to as "Season 1.0" through "5.0." Prior to that were two unaired competitions in 1999, the first held in Long Beach, which was recorded for the BattleBots Beginnings VHS tape/DVD, and the second held in Las Vegas and available on Pay-Per-View, but later on, this competition was available on DVD as well. BattleBots was revived in 2015 as a 6-episode television series, and it was filmed in San Francisco on a tight schedule. The season aired on ABC during the summer of that year and was renewed for a second season that ran for 10 episodes. On July 5th, 2017, the Science Channel picked up the re-run rights for the ABC BattleBots episodes which started on July 12th, 2017. In February of 2018 Discovery Channel officially renewed BattleBots for a third season. The competition is set to be held from April 3rd - April 15th, 2018 with the episodes airing on May 11th on Discovery and May 16th on Science with exclusive content like extra battles and interviews of the robot builders after their matches.
As of 2018, all of the original episodes including the pilot episode for the first season can be found on the YouTube channel Fighting Robot Archive. [1] Unfortunately, three episodes of the fifth season (Ep7, Ep9, Ep11) cannot be found on YouTube or any other video website of its entirety. However, all the fights that were showcased in the episodes can be seen on YouTube with good quality except for the middleweight fight between Ankle Biter and former US Robot Wars heavyweight champion The Master which was removed on YouTube later that same year. In a 2018 Instagram post, the company behind the program "Battlebots Inc." revealed that they still have all episodes from the series[2].
On July 16th, 2019, YouTuber Asteropax uploaded episodes 7, 9, and 11 of the 5.0 Season of BattleBots.[3]
