Eureeka's Castle (partially found Nick Jr. puppet series; 1989-1991)
Eureeka's Castle was a puppet show that premiered on Nickelodeon's Nick Jr. block from 1989 until 1991. It starred a "wizard in training" named Eureeka, a dragon named Magellan, a lovably arrogant bat named Batly, Quagmire and Bogge (the mischievous Moat Twins), three mice, a talking fish fountain, a giant, and more. It was also notable for Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine's extensive writing credits.
The majority of episodes are currently lost. Specific plot information about individual episodes — including correct episode order — remains spotty.
Availability
Paramount rereleased 26 episodes on Paramount Plus in 2021,[1] although due to a lack of known episode titles or production codes from during this series' original run, it's difficult to discern where the two dozen or so uncovered episodes officially fit into the list of approximately 155 episodes/specials. It can be assumed based on the Paramount Plus page (and the extensive use of clips from said 26 episodes on the two VHS specials recovered thus far) that the footage from these episodes is very likely originally from season one.
However, it has been theorized that the 26 episodes that Paramount Plus released may actually have been from season three,[2] a season which comprised special edits of footage from the first two seasons — sans a number of interstitial segments often not directly related to the core cast — which were ostensibly removed for licensing reasons. If this is indeed the case, Paramount Plus has not announced the release of the remaining 26 episodes from season three. It should be noted that this theory is not confirmed, and there is some conflicting information with regard to this theory, as there is a YouTube video that claims to be a full episode from 1991 (at the expected half-hour length) that includes a Rhubarb interstitial segment, a type of segment notably absent from the Paramount Plus releases.
What seems to be confirmable from cross-referencing against "unofficial" recordings is that the 26 episodes do appear to be, at the very least, edits that appeared on the Noggin channel. Whether these were, in fact, a different group of edits created after season 3 is unknown. Since there appears to be disagreement here, the 26 Paramount Plus episodes are referred to as the "Noggin Edits" below. It is also unclear if there are any other edits in this style besides the 26 already released.
Many of the prime-time specials have been uploaded throughout the years, the most elusive being Don't Touch That Box!. There was ostensibly a version uploaded to YouTube sometime on or before January 2020, from which a clip of Eureeka talking to Luther Vandross' character was edited and posted to a different channel; however, neither the channel nor the video were still active as of early 2024.
On February 29th, 2024, a Redditor revealed he had found a VHS recording of Don't Touch That Box!, and was working on making it available alongside broadcast recordings of Christmas At Eureeka's Castle and It Came From Beneath the Bed (the latter two previously only available from home media sources). As of April 22nd, it was successfully archived and made available.
