Hachaverim Shel Barney (Hebrew: החברים של ברני, meaning "Barney's Friends") is the Israeli version of the well-known American children's television show "Barney & Friends." The Israeli adaptation debuted on November 2, 1997, on Channel 2, quickly gaining popularity. In 1998, it was also shown on Arutz Hayeladim (ערוץ הילדים, The Children's Channel) and later aired on Channel 33 and Hop!. The series has been made available on VHS and DVD. In 2015, the original "Barney & Friends" was dubbed in Hebrew and broadcast on JimJam[1], featuring a different voice cast than the Israeli version.

Broadcast and Popularity

Upon its debut, Hachaverim Shel Barney garnered immense popularity in Israel. By December 1997, it captured 25% of the television viewership on Sunday afternoons, surpassing other beloved children's programs such as "Parpar Nechmad" (Nice Butterfly). The show's success prompted the production of a second season in 1998, which continued to air into early 1999[2]. Despite its initial popularity, the accessibility of the series has diminished over time, with only a few episodes having surfaced online while many others remain missing.

Availability

Despite its initial release on VHS and DVD, Hachaverim Shel Barney has become partially lost over the years. Only a few episodes have been known to surface online or on old recordings. The majority of the series remains missing, with efforts from dedicated fans and collectors ongoing to recover and preserve these episodes
