==History==
In September 2005, between a joint venture with Comcast, NBCUniversal, PBS, and HiT Entertainment/Sesame Workshop, PBS Kids Sprout first launched on Comcast (later on other cable & satellite providers) & The Good Night Show premiered on the same day.

*Season 3 of the show Premiered on December 18th, 2006 and brought back many elements of the show that were previously suspended during the Noel Macneal season like Crafts, Yoga Stretches & Moonbeam Wheel, carried over a relatively new segment where the host asks a question and sproutlets provide answers based on the night's theme and introduced another variation of the storytime segment.
*Season 4 of the show saw some changes like bringing back Sproutlets to do Yoga Stretches alongside Nina, a new game called Lucy Light The Way was introduced and instead of a book Nina & Star do improv storytelling by using the craft they created in the previous segment.
*Season 5 however removed the Storytime segment (replacing it with Nina's Little Fables), shortened the Sign Language segment, and had a lot more repetition by doing the birthdays, gallery and Sproutlets q&a segments twice.
*Season 6, premiering on November 7th, 2011, saw a major overhaul to the show, switching from the Goodnight Garden to The You & Me Tree setting where Nina & Star would hang out in the treehouse every night, A part of the show where Nina would ask a question & sproutlets provide answers were revamped into an entire segment called "Star talks to kids" where star has a conversation with several sproutlets about the night's theme, Craft & Goodnight Gallery segments were permanently dropped, a new storytime segment was introduced called "Sandy Stories" where Nina tells & writes pictures of the story in sand while Star provides commentary, the Moonbeam Wheel had pictures of various games on the wheel itself instead of Flashcards, and a new, original clean up song was created to play near the end of every episode that encouraged the sproutlets at home to tidy up their rooms before bedtime.<ref>[https://nexttv.com/news/poppy-cat-series-sidles-sprouts-good-night-show-361338 NextTV Article discussing some aspects of Season 6 of The Good Night Show.] Retrieved 21 Apr '22</ref>  Season 6B started airing on September 27th, 2012 were not much changed except for Nina's Pajamas & another new variation of the Star Puppet.
*Season 7, which premiered on July 27th, 2015 during the Nina's World era, and the final season of GNS, also saw some changes to the show, with one of the biggest being that a new element the "Best Day Ever Book" was introduced which contains Nina's childhood memories and used as a plot device for certain parts of every episode with various games & activities. <ref>[https://youtu.be/1Jtbebzmgg0 ''The Good Night Show'''s Season 7 promo.] Retrieved Jan '20</ref> the Moonbeam Wheel segment was completely dropped, and Esai Morales (Best Known for playing as Lt. Tony Rodriguez on ABC's NYPD Blue, Camino del Rio on Netflix's Ozark, and President Julian in HBO's The Brink) played the role of Nina's Uncle "Tio Javier" in several Good Night Show episodes & in the prequel series Nina's World.<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20151016103839/https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/esai-morales-latinos-hollywood-trump-n426866 Press release about Esai Morales joining ''The Good Night Show'' for Season 7.] Retrieved Oct '21</ref> Although since almost all of S7 is currently lost, we currently don't know what episodes he appeared in & what the format is like for each episode.

Periodicity, they would also do live episodes like The 2011 Halloween episode “A Sweet Goodnight Treat”, The 2009 Mothers Day episode or the 2014 Space Episode when Astroblast first premiered, usually taking place at The Sunshine Barn.

The big differences between the eariler seasons and the later seasons is that starting in Season 5 "Goodnight Gallery & Crafts" segments were removed for mostly unknown reasons. the smaller portion of the episode where nina would ask a question and the kids would give there responses in seasons 3 & 4 was completely revamped into an entire segment for seasons 5 & 6 where star would have a conversation with several kids mostly about the topic of the episode. The Moonbeam Wheel changed from spinning a color & the game they played was revealed on flash cards up until season 4, to having pictures of the games on the wheel itself for season 5 but completely scrapped on the 6th and final season. and on the original tv airings the pajanimals lullaby song would play before the hush poem/goodnight song, this was later changed to playing after sometime during the 5th season, but may have been completely removed when the 6th season started airing
==Cast==

* Nina, played by Michele Lepe, debuted as the permanent host on December 18th, 2006. and was the most popular host with audiences; she did crafts, translated words into Spanish, did ASL sign language, narrated and drew pictures in the sandy story segments, etc. and guest-hosted ''The Sunny Side Up Show'' several times.

Star debuted shortly before the departure of the program's original host, "Melanie." While still technically counting as stretches, Nina often did poses in the third season. While it was popular when it aired on the Sprout channel, there are only a few episodes available and many clips for some partially found or mostly lost episodes on YouTube and Archive.org. Only one DVD has been released and there is currently not any digital release. Between 2009-2012, Sprout used to release podcasts which were clips of there shows that got released on iTunes, the Sprout Player App on IOS devices, and a website called digitalpodcast.com, but the app has been deleted, the podcasts were removed from iTunes and the files were revoked from the website. There were also clips of the show that were found on Sprout Online, but the site no longer exists. A YouTube user by the name of PBSKIDSSprout had uploaded clips from ''The Good Night Show'' and other shows that aired on Sprout, but when they moved youtube channels to a channel called Sprout, now known as Universal Kids Preschool, all videos on the old channel were made private and only a few Uploads remain on the current channel for this particular show. Also allegedly, for a short amount of time clips/episodes from the show were on the Google Play Store.<ref>[https://play.google.com/store/tv/show/The_Good_Night_Show?id=127B01533E0C50A5SH&hl=en_US ''The Good Night Show'' page on the Google Play store.] Retrieved 24 Oct '19</ref><ref>[https://www.amazon.com/Good-Night-Show-Goodnight-Stories/dp/B00FBRCXKC Amazon listing for ''The Good Night Show'' DVD release.] Retrieved 24 Oct '19</ref><ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20110924200548/http://www.sproutonline.com/SPROUT/videos/togo.aspx Archived Sprout Online page dating back to September 24th 2011.] Retrieved 09 Dec '19</ref><ref>[http://www.digitalpodcast.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&keywords=PBS+Kids+Sprout PBS Kids Sprout digital podcast pages, but files are revoked.] Retrieved 09 Dec '19</ref><ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20100226142702/https://www.youtube.com/user/PBSKIDSSprout/ Archived page of the old PBS Kids Sprout YouTube channel showing some videos of ''The Good Night Show'' which are now private.] Retrieved 09 Dec '19</ref><ref>[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_EANcmOcL7JGlOFDm5z5zFCOaJ8FQO_G Playlist of ''The Good Night Show'' from the current YouTube Channel, which are the last remaining official uploads of this series.] Retrieved 09 Dec '19</ref>

3rd host Nina and Star.

Status: Partially Found

The Good Night Show is a children's television block, with segments that aired in a blockisode format between other shows on Sprout (now known as Universal Kids) starting on September 26th, 2005, with Michele Lepe "Nina" becoming the final, permanent host on December 18th, 2006 until the show was gradually cancelled between late 2016 to early 2017, shortly before the switch to Universal Kids.

This page covers the seasons hosted by Nina (seasons 3+). For the earlier seasons hosted by Melanie/Leo, see The Good Night Show with Melanie/Leo.

History

In September 2005, between a joint venture with Comcast, NBCUniversal, PBS, and HiT Entertainment/Sesame Workshop, PBS Kids Sprout first launched on Comcast (later on other cable & satellite providers) & The Good Night Show premiered on the same day.

  • Season 3 of the show Premiered on December 18th, 2006 and brought back many elements of the show that were previously suspended during the Noel Macneal season like Crafts, Yoga Stretches & Moonbeam Wheel, carried over a relatively new segment where the host asks a question and sproutlets provide answers based on the night's theme and introduced another variation of the storytime segment.
  • Season 4 of the show saw some changes like bringing back Sproutlets to do Yoga Stretches alongside Nina, a new game called Lucy Light The Way was introduced and instead of a book Nina & Star do improv storytelling by using the craft they created in the previous segment.
  • Season 5 however removed the Storytime segment (replacing it with Nina's Little Fables), shortened the Sign Language segment, and had a lot more repetition by doing the birthdays, gallery and Sproutlets q&a segments twice.
  • Season 6, premiering on November 7th, 2011, saw a major overhaul to the show, switching from the Goodnight Garden to The You & Me Tree setting where Nina & Star would hang out in the treehouse every night, A part of the show where Nina would ask a question & sproutlets provide answers were revamped into an entire segment called "Star talks to kids" where star has a conversation with several sproutlets about the night's theme, Craft & Goodnight Gallery segments were permanently dropped, a new storytime segment was introduced called "Sandy Stories" where Nina tells & writes pictures of the story in sand while Star provides commentary, the Moonbeam Wheel had pictures of various games on the wheel itself instead of Flashcards, and a new, original clean up song was created to play near the end of every episode that encouraged the sproutlets at home to tidy up their rooms before bedtime.[1] Season 6B started airing on September 27th, 2012 were not much changed except for Nina's Pajamas & another new variation of the Star Puppet.
  • Season 7, which premiered on July 27th, 2015 during the Nina's World era, and the final season of GNS, also saw some changes to the show, with one of the biggest being that a new element the "Best Day Ever Book" was introduced which contains Nina's childhood memories and used as a plot device for certain parts of every episode with various games & activities. [2] the Moonbeam Wheel segment was completely dropped, and Esai Morales (Best Known for playing as Lt. Tony Rodriguez on ABC's NYPD Blue, Camino del Rio on Netflix's Ozark, and President Julian in HBO's The Brink) played the role of Nina's Uncle "Tio Javier" in several Good Night Show episodes & in the prequel series Nina's World.[3] Although since almost all of S7 is currently lost, we currently don't know what episodes he appeared in & what the format is like for each episode.

Periodicity, they would also do live episodes like The 2011 Halloween episode “A Sweet Goodnight Treat”, The 2009 Mothers Day episode or the 2014 Space Episode when Astroblast first premiered, usually taking place at The Sunshine Barn.

Cast

  • Nina, played by Michele Lepe, debuted as the permanent host on December 18th, 2006. and was the most popular host with audiences; she did crafts, translated words into Spanish, did ASL sign language, narrated and drew pictures in the sandy story segments, etc. and guest-hosted The Sunny Side Up Show several times.
  • Star, a star-shaped puppet, Voiced & Played by Stacia Newcomb, was the show's co-host. Star served as the child character of the show, asking questions about the evening's theme, commenting to Nina about the segment (such as the Goodnight Game), & encouraging viewers to follow him as he performed nighttime routines such as brushing his teeth or reading a bedtime story. Star debuted shortly before the departure of the program's original host, "Melanie." His puppet was changed several times & appears as a character in the prequel animated series Nina's World, living with Nina, even though Star began with the two former hosts before her.
  • Lucy The Firefly, who was originally a firefly puppet in seasons 2-5, updated once in Mid-2009, then completely animated in Seasons 6 and 7, used to introduce show segments, featured in such as "Lucy Light the Way"; in this game, viewers were shown parts of a picture (as though they were illuminated by a firefly's light) and then guessed what the picture represented, In Seasons 6/7 She was also used in the "Sprout-o-Scope" segments to help Nina & Star find constellations in the night time sky, She also appears as a character in the prequel Nina's World, living with Nina, even though she was introduced alongside Leo before Nina arrived.
  • Hush was a real-life goldfish who was originally used to introduce shows with the original host, but quickly went from a main character to a minor character who would mainly appear at the ending segments of every episode just before & after star goes to sleep with Nina closing the show by saying goodnight and reciting a poem in which viewers were encouraged to "make a wish." He also appeared in the prequel animated series Nina's World living with Nina as a child even though Hush also began with the two former hosts.
  • Nina's Friends and Sproutlets, On The Good Night Show, Melanie or Nina would teach the viewers a Sprout stretch, often based on a show in the fourth season. In 2007, Nina's Sproutlet friends were added to the segments. Originally, the girls wore purple pajamas with stars and the boys wore blue pajamas with moons, but then they wore blue and pink pajamas with either Star on the moon or white and yellow sparks. While still technically counting as stretches, Nina often did poses in the third season. Some of the Nina's Friends and Sproutlets include: Christopher Convery, Jaden Betts, Delaney Jones, Madalynn LeClair, Kamiah Johnson, Giovanni Aponte, Christina Sims, Scout Latshaw, Asa White, William Sum, Deysha Nel, Grace Kelly, and Jeremiah Jackson White.

  • 1 complete episode from a University of Georgia W.J.B Media Archive
  • 3 Mostly Complete episodes (w/o Moonbeam Wheel segment) from the DVD "Good Night Stories".[4]

  • A few segments that would have aired in the TV version like birthday reminders and the goodnight gallery were intentionally removed for various reasons, and if any episodes were officially digitally released in the future, they would not include those segments. Still, the Goodnight Game segment that is part of every episode is missing from DVD & Digital re-releases for unknown reasons.
