Um Bravo do Nordeste (A Brave from the Northeast in English) is a 1931 Brazilian western film directed by Edison Chagas. Premiered on May 8, 1931.[1]

Production

Ernani Passos, says that he created the film at a bar table with director Edson Chagas, a filmmaker from Pernambuco who had recently arrived in Maceió. Filming lasted around 90 days.[2]

The film was financed by Francisco da Rocha Cavalcanti, who also acted as the villain, and had the dream of acting in a film.

Synopsis

A cattle thief tries to trick a rich owner into buying his cattle. Arriving at the farm, he falls in love with the colonel's daughter and decides to get married. After selling the herd, the farmer goes to the bank to deposit the money, but the cashier refuses to receive it because the money was fake.[1]

Availability

Only a few mentions in newspapers and an alleged image of the film's production survive. According to rumors, the film's director Edison Chagas disappeared with the only existing copy after releases across the state.[3]
