CBeebies Springwatch (partially found preschool spin-off of British documentary series; 2006-2008)
Springwatch is an annual BBC Two nature documentary series that first aired in 2005. After the success of the first series of Springwatch, the BBC commissioned a one-off special, Autumnwatch, which became a full series in 2006. A second spin-off, Winterwatch, began in 2012.
In May 2006, CBeebies Springwatch, a preschool version, debuted on the CBeebies channel. It is hosted by Jackson, a character from the CBeebies show The Story Makers, with appearances from various other CBeebies stars including Jelly (Jackson's sidekick), British Preschool TV legend Justin Fletcher and Dogsby, Tigs and Mukka, the main stars of The Shiny Show. Not that much info is known about the series, although it seems that Fellow CBeebies show The Green Balloon Club was inspired by it. CBeebies Springwatch even won a BAFTA award in 2006[1]. Despite all of this, footage of the show is very scarce.
Findings
For many years, the only video to surface from the show online was the Season 2 closing theme, "Spring's Out", which was uploaded to YouTube by "ttwfn" on June 14th, 2007, with a rip of the song from the website being uploaded the following year by kingofhustlers1.
Eventually, the Season 1 credits song, "Jump Up" was uploaded to YouTube by LITTLEMADMiXERGIRL X on August 7th, 2014. In 2015, Mayday 51 uploaded several clips of games from the old CBeebies website. So far, 2 episodes of Springwatch: What's in Your Patch? have been found, "Flowers" (title might be inaccurate) was found by Thecbbconchoice1 on YouTube in 2016, whilst "Deer" was found by SkyActive on Archive.org in 2021, and subsequently uploaded it to YouTube by "childhoodncstalgia."
A Mute version of the Season 1 intro was found on David McCue's website (it's known that the theme song was the same as the main Springwatch series) and was later posted to YouTube by "Mayday 51" in 2018, who, on the same day, uploaded a short fragment of a 2006 episode (the exact episode is unknown), which was found on the Vimeo account of Nick Mercer, the actor who played Jackson. Eventually, a full episode (The 11th episode of Season 2) surfaced online on February 24th, 2021, courtesy of Media Recoverer.
On March 4th, 2023, Calvin Jacks the 2nd uploaded a widescreen version of "Jump Up!" & an HD version of "Spring's Out!" to his Google Drive account.
On March 12th, 2023, the 1st episode of Season 2 was uploaded to YouTube, courtesy of "childhoodncstalgia." A day earlier, another episode was found by RVF2007.
On March 19th, 2023, Tiny Mew uploaded 5 Season 2 episodes, taken from 2008 reruns.
On April 1st, 2023, Calvin Jacks the 2nd uploaded a reconstructed version of the Season 1 intro to his drive account. The video from David McCue's website was synched up with the SpringWatch theme.
The series is likely archived in BBC Redux. Airings also exist in Box of Broadcasts.
Season 2 seems to be easier to find than Season 1, not helped by the fact that there is no known proof of Season 1 being reran, whilst Season 2 reran in 2008, likely to lead up to the premiere of the show's successor, the Green Balloon Club.
Yet another episode, the 7th episode of Season 2 was found on 26/04/2023. With S2Ep8 being found on 10/02/2024.
