Edge, John Cena, Rey Mysterio and Triple H vs. Batista, Chris Jericho, CM Punk and Sheamus (partially found master tape footage of untelevised tag team wrestling match; 2010)
On March 16, 2010, an 8-man tag team match took place after a SmackDown episode taping. It consisted of babyfaces (good guys) Edge, John Cena, Rey Mysterio and Triple H taking on heels (bad guys) Batista, Chris Jericho, CM Punk and Sheamus. The show the match took place on was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Background
Heading into the match, all 8 competitors were embroiled in feuds against one another. The feuds were John Cena vs. Batista, Edge vs. Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk and Triple H vs. Sheamus. All of these feuds were to cultiminate in matches at WrestleMania 26 (stylised at WrestleMania XXVI), that would take place just over a week later. Earlier in the televised portion of the show, Rey Mysterio had accepted a challenge by CM Punk for a match at the aforementioned show before taking on Punk's partner in the Straight Edge Society faction, Luke Gallows, later on in a losing effort. Meanwhile, Chris Jericho and Edge had taken part in a segment that led to the two attacking each other. Edge had previously won the Royal Rumble match earlier that January and had chosen to face Jericho, the World Heavyweight Champion, at WrestleMania.[1] Meanwhile on Raw, WWE's other major brand, John Cena and Batista began feuding over the latter's distaste for the former being chosen at the company's flagship superstar with the WWE Championship later becoming involved in the feud and Triple H accepted a challenge from Sheamus after the Irish superstar began attacking Triple H for costing him the WWE Championship at the Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View.
The Match
Nothing is known about what happened in the match nor how long the match lasted. All that is known is that the babyface team of Edge, Cena, Mysterio and Triple H were victorious, but it's unknown which competitor scored the pinfall victory on the opposing team.[2] What is unusual about this is that Cena, Batista, Triple H and Sheamus were Raw superstars at the time and the match took place on SmackDown. Wrestlers were usually restricted to competing on their own brands at the time.
Availability
As the match was untelevised, there is very limited footage available online. No photographs were ever posted to the official WWE website and the master tape footage has never been released either. The only known footage of the match is a small 3-minute 51-second clip posted on Vimeo by the user Hollywood Czar. Unfortunately, the video can only be watched if someone is logged in to a Vimeo account. As such, the thumbnail of this video is the only picture of the match available online and whether or not the video contains the full match is unknown unless it is viewed by logging in.[3]
