Dean Malenko vs Mistico (lost footage of professional wrestling match; 2007)
Background
There was a rumor created about the match supposedly occuring prior to the February 27th 2007 WWE Friday Night SmackDown! Taping. The match was supposedly a tryout for Mexican Professional Wrestler Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde who at the time was performing under the name of Mistico. He had gained much success in the Mexican wrestling scene [1] where he wrestled Dean Malenko, commonly known as "The Man Of 1,000 Holds" (Real Name Dean Simon)[2] Dean worked for WWE from 2000 to 2001 as an active wrestler before quietly retiring and transitioning to a backstage agent role. It was thought Dean had come out of retirement doe this match, but the match was proven non existent when Dean himself dispelled the rumor in an interview. [3]
It turns out that Mistico didn't wrestle Dean Malenko that night, rather he had wrestled Jamie Noble. Although Mistico wouldn't get the job with WWE, he'd later be signed in 2011 [4] under the name Sin Cara where he'd wrestle until his release in January of 2014. [5]
It is unknown how this rumor began, but there had been a record of the match posted on Cagematch, a Pro Wrestling database that keeps record of Pro Wrestling events. The page has since been edited to show that Jamie Noble was in fact the man who wrestled Mistico that night.
