Toot Toot! (found original version of The Wiggles video; 1998)
Toot Toot! is the seventh video released by the Australian children's group The Wiggles on October 17, 1998[1]. It was the group's first video since the theatrical film The Wiggles Movie in December and their first video since Wiggly Wiggly Christmas in October 1997 and is the group's second video based around their vehicle the "Big Red Car" (first appearance of the titular vehicle as a fully motorized vehicle after debuting during the group's Australian tour a year earlier). The video was released three months after the group's television series premiered on Seven Network in Australia. The version of the video that is widely known today is very different than what was originally released.
Original Version
To match the theme of the first television series, the majority of the video takes place inside the garage at Wigglehouse (a location that is never seen in the series and has not been seen since) and it's title sequence and final song of the video was rendered in 2D CGI, a lot of flag transitions with many of the group members and other characters like Wags The Dog and Captain Feathersword were used and the song title graphics were more low budget and were also rendered in 2D. The final song of the video "Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car" actually premiered in the television episode Haircut that aired fifteen days before the video was released. The video would also be the last video to feature a Raffi song "Bathtime"[2] as many of the group's prior releases until Toot Toot! had at least one Raffi song[3][4][5][6][7] and would be the only song cut from international releases due to licensing issues.
Re-release
To coincide with the airing of the second television series in February 2000[8] and the release of the then upcoming concert video The Wiggly Big Show, Toot Toot! was re-released in November 1999 and was re-edited to match the second series' fictional location "Wiggle World". The green screen backdrop for the Big Red Car scenes were replaced with outside of Wigglehouse and various shots were either shorten or extended or cut. Bathtime was now no longer in the video and while the song and prologue took place after Go Captain Feathersword Ahoy!, a video for Henry's Underwater Big Band was placed between John Bradlelum and Head, Shoulders, Knees And Toes (also cutting a shot of the group rolling down and up a hill) and the Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car video was also re-edited with new green screen footage that also shows shots that weren't seen in the original video and the end credits were significantly shorten[9]. The re-edit would also be used for International releases of Toot Toot!, making the original version very hard to come by.
Resurfacing
For years, the only reminisce of the original video was the previous mentioned Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car video used in the first and second television series'. It is rumored that the VCD release of the video in 2004 contains the original version, but it is unconfirmed[10]. It wasn't until the early 2010s, when glimpses of the original video began to emerge. In August 2011, a recording of the first 90 seconds of the video surfaced on YouTube by user Martin Boyce. Seven months later, a recording of the full original version of Toot Toot! surfaced on an unknown Chinese video sharing site (that can't be found any more)[11]. A year later, another recording of the original version surfaced on YouTube. While the original version is now widely available since it's resurfacing, it wasn't used in the group's upload of the Toot Toot! video in 2019 to 2020 [12][13][14][15] or Wildbrain's upload of the video in 2022[16][17][18], causing speculation that the group may've lost the master to the original version.
