Spaced Out (known in French, as Allô la Terre, ici les Martin) is a Sci-Fi French-Canadian cartoon that produced and aired on the European Cartoon Network, in 2002. It was co-produced by Alphanim (Now Gaumont Animation) Tooncan, Canal+, Vrak.TV, France 3, Sofica Gimages 2 and animated by Animation Enterprises Hong Kong Ltd. (Now Agogo Studios).[1][2][3]

Plot

This show is centers around a family surnamed the Martins. Consisting of the father George, the mother Monica, their eldest daughter Betty, their youngest Benjamin, George's mother Gran, their pet dog Fax, and cat Goodgrief. George applies to a job at a company named Krach Industries. By accident, he gets accepted to being the director of a secret orbital station. So he and his family moves to the space station, where they have to live as an experiment started by Krach. They meet other people who have also been sent by Krach to live there, their neighbor who is also a teacher Mrs. Schuman and her son Bobby Schuman, a Russian cosmonaut who crashed on their space station named Boris Malakoff, and a guy who keeps switching jobs literally named Guy.

Availability

The show first premiered in 2002 on the UK Cartoon Network feed, and a year later on the rest of the European Cartoon Network channels, reruns were played on the network until 2005.

Since the show last aired, episodes of this show were very strenuous to find online, particularly in English. As the show wasn't promoted very well by Cartoon Network Europe, only airing the show on mornings and after midnight with the occasional mid noon slot. Unlike most shows airing on Cartoon Network at the time that ran with either seven- or thirteen-minute episodes, Spaced Out episodes ran for twenty minutes on the network with no commercial breaks between the shows run, making it hard for full television recordings to be made and resurfaced online.

Although there were two commercials of the show on YouTube. One used The Jetsons theme song over scenes from the show that was an upload from 2006, and the other one using a scene from episode #20 that centers around Guy and Boris uploaded from 2011.

The show was released on DVD in France and Italy, but only contained a handful of episodes on them. The French DVD consists of a single volume with four episodes (#1, #2, #5, and #17), while the Italian DVD has the first nine episodes released in each three volumes

The first four episodes of the show were uploaded in Hungarian by YouTube user hudixyt in 2010. In 2013, three episodes (#15, #21, and #22) were uploaded in Danish by user TokyoMewMewFanBoy, both of which were from DVR television recordings from when the show was still airing.

On March 2nd, 2016, A contributor by the name of "THGhost" has uploaded 8 episodes of the English dub from the Italian DVDs of the show, as well as 1 episode in Italian due to an error with episode #3 having the same English and French audio track as episode #4.

On April 19th, 2019, A YouTuber by the name of "Mes vieilles VHS" has uploaded all episodes (except for episode 16) from a DVR television recording in French.

On December 16th 2022, A YouTube user "Randy Poffo" has uploaded 14 episodes of the shows Italian dub under the name "Gli Astromartin".

On February 12th, 2023, A YouTube user "MIXXPOST" who may have worked at the shows animation studio on the overseas animation has been uploading episodes of the studios entire animation catalog, including Spaced Out. The first eight episodes were already available in English online. However because they were from an Italian DVD, some episodes had Italian subtitles for the alien gibberish dialogue, making it lost for English viewers. These new uploads are in much higher quality and are in full English. The user also has finally uploaded episode #3 in English for the first time on the public web. Its possible that he could have more episodes of the dub on hand that he can upload in the future.
