Adventure Time is an animated series created by Pendleton Ward and co-produced by Frederator Studios for Cartoon Network. The series follows the adventures of Finn and Jake on the land of Ooo.

There were two attempts to produce a film based on the Cartoon Network series. Over time, the idea of producing a film based on Adventure Time fell into oblivion until it was completely forgotten.

Season 5 TV Film

The Season 5 of the series was originally going to end with a major television movie as its finale. This would be a four-part episode, similar to the series finale Come Along With Me, featuring the Dead Worlds, Orgalorg, and Maja.

Although the film was not produced, the plot was eventually reused for the show in some forms, becoming the episodes Something Big, The Comet and Together Again.

Theatrical Film

On February 27, 2015, a feature-length Adventure Time film was announced, being produced by Chris McKay and Roy Lee, who had previously worked on The LEGO Movie. The series creator Pendleton Ward would have some involvement in writing and producing the film.[1]

In October 2015, showrunner and co-executive producer Adam Muto confirmed that Ward was still working on the film's premise, but there was "nothing official to announce yet." On August 31, 2018, Muto said the finale of the show would not affect a potential film, nor would the finale lead directly into a film.[2]

In 2020, BenDavid Gabrinski, writer of Happily and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, revealed he was previously a writer on the film, but that it never came to fruition.

2024 Film

On June 12, 2024, during the Annecy Animation Festival, it was announced that an Adventure Time film was in development, it is possible that this film will use elements from the original scripts.[3]
